Sometimes a teething baby can be overwhelming and even a bit stressful. To help you get through this hard time, Dr. Samuel Yee DDS and our dental team have some information to share with you. We hope these baby teeth facts can help make this time a little less stressful and worrisome for you.
The first fact we would like to share is that your child should typically receive their first baby tooth when they are around 6 months old. However, every child is different and you shouldn’t worry if your child’s first tooth erupts before or after that six-month mark. To soothe your teething baby, you can let them bite on chilled teether toys, chew on cold spoons, and eat cold or even frozen baby food. You can also put numbing gel on the gums or give them Infant Tylenol, but only if your pediatrician recommends it.
The second fact we would like to share is that you need to help your child’s smile regularly by keeping up on oral hygiene. You can do so by brushing their little chompers with a baby toothbrush and water. They don’t need toothpaste until they are older. Once they have two teeth grow in next to each other, it’s time to start flossing their smile.
The third fact we would like to share is that you need to take your child to a dental professional for a regular checkup six months after your child’s first tooth erupts or around their first birthday. Taking them into the dental office at an early age can help them learn the importance of caring for their smile.
