When you begin your orthodontic treatment, there will be three distinct phases to ensure excellent results throughout your child’s life.  We invite you to contact Samuel Yee DDS INC at 949-831-3111 for more information about orthodontic treatment phases and to schedule your consultation with Dr. Samuel Yee DDS in Aliso Viejo, California.

Orthodontic treatment typically takes between 6 and 30 months to complete, depending on the severity of the problems to be correct and the type of treatment.

Phase 1 – The Planning Stage

In phase one, our dentist will carefully evaluate your mouth to make an exact diagnosis of your bite and any other dental problems present.  This may include:

  • A medical and dental evaluation
  • Taking impressions for study and treatment planning
  • X-rays
  • Computer generated imaging
  • Photographs

Phase 2 – Treatment

In phase two, our dentist will recommend a treatment, and provide the orthodontic appliances needed to gently move the teeth into their proper positions.  This appliance may be fixed or removable.  Fixed orthodontic appliances include braces.  Removable appliance include treatments such as ClearCorrect, headgear, and facemasks, which are to be worn for a specified amount of time each day.

Your orthodontic appliances will be adjusted regularly to ensure that they function properly and that consistent pressure is being applied to your teeth.  You will meet with our dentist regularly throughout this phase of treatment.

Phase 3 – Retention

Following your treatment, our dentist will create a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back into their original positions while the jawbone reforms and stabilizes around your newly realigned teeth.  Retainers need to be worn for a certain amount of time each day for a specified time period in order to be effective.
